Across State Lines, Making Great Things Happen 2/8/2019
Great things happen every day! The email below describes one example involving two schools, one in Wisconsin and one in Minnesota...

Please allow me to share this with you. Superior High School had a boys hockey game cancelled Thursday, February 7 due to weather. This game was our last home regular-season boys hockey game and our Red the Rink Event. The Red the Rink event was a senior project, a graduation requirement for an SHS student. All proceeds from the Red the Rink event are going to the American Heart Association. A cause very important to this student who had heart surgery this past summer.

Because of several reasons -- rink and official availability, regular-season game schedules and Wisconsin playoffs starting next week -- we are not able to reschedule the game from yesterday. This means no home game for our Red the Rink Event.

I reached out to Duluth East AD Shawn Roed and Essentia Duluth Heritage Center President/CEO Jerry DeMeo to see if they would allow use to host our Red the Rink event at our boys hockey game Monday vs Duluth East at the Heritage Center. I figured no harm in asking and would understand if this request could not be meet.

To our delight, both Shawn (Duluth East hockey) and Jerry instantly agreed to allow us to host our Red the Rink Event at their game and facility this Monday. What a great but not surprising response!!

Thank you for allowing me to share this amazing display of cooperation and compassion Duluth East and the Heritage Center is showing Superior HS and this student. We are forever in their debt. So often we hear about how competition can bring out the worst in schools, I am so pleased to show how it can also bring out the best.

Go Greyhounds and Spartans!

Thank you from SHS.
