State Tournament Summary

Champions of Section 8A, East Grand Forks (24-4) rode the strong play of net minder Josh Weber who shut out the Trojans of New Prague, 4-0 in the second Class A quarterfinal game of the tournament. Weber stopped 17 shots and lowered his already low goals against average of 1.49. His counterpart Connor Wagner had 28 saves while facing 31 shots, including breakaways and shooters with point blank opportunities in the loss. The Green Wave’s leading scorer, Dixon Bowen had three points in the game. He opened the scoring at 6:58 of the second period and then added an assist on Nick Derrick’s power play with three minutes to play in the game. Bowen got an empty net goal with 37 seconds remaining ending the scoring. Bowen finished the game with 11 shots on net in over 20 minutes of ice time, finishing a +2. The Trojans nearly tied the game at 1-1 when with less than 30 seconds remaining in the second period Alex Gregor ‘s shot clanked the upper right corner of the pipes, and bounced out. The game was 1-0 starting the third period. Cooper Jerome made it 2-0 when his shot slipped through the pads of Wagner. East Grand Forks will face Mathomedi in the semifinals on Friday at 11am. New Prague (20-9) goes to the consolation bracket and will go against New Ulm.
