The No. 2 seed and two-time defending champion Edina Hornets, defeated unranked Bemidji Lumberjacks, 6-4, to advance to tomorrow’s semifinal game. The game was off to a lopsided start with Edina scoring the first three goals of the game. After what must have been a motivating locker room conversation during intermission, the Lumberjacks responded with two back-to-back goals in the first 43 seconds of the second period. Credit to the Hornets, despite the explosive scoring they stayed strong to remain in control of the game and ultimately earn the victory. With a pair of goals, senior forward Matt Masterman led the offensive charge for the Hornets. Masterman was one of nine different Edina players who played a role getting the puck in the net. The shots on goal also favored Edina. The Hornets had 35 shots while keeping the Lumberjacks to just 17 shots on goal. With the victory, the Edina Hornets will play in Friday’s semifinal game against the winner of the Duluth East and St. Thomas Academy quarterfinal game.
