Lakeville North (29-0) extended its winning ways and undefeated season with a 4-1 defeat of the Pioneers of Hill-Murray (21-8). It was the second meeting between these two schools this season. The Panthers won the first meeting back on Dec. 23rd 4-3. Max Johnson of the Panther’s opened the scoring at 3:09 in the first period. The Pioneers tied it at 11:18 when Jacob Olson took a pass across the crease from Ricky Zellmer and banged it past Lakeville North net minder Ryan Edquist. It was just the second shot on Edquist by Hill-Murray who were outshot 11-2 in the period. Senior captain Jack Poehling got what turned out to be the game winner for the Panthers when he won a face-off and skated right in on goalie Jake Begley and flipped a backhander into the net for a 2-1 lead. Poehling scored again, his 36th of the year, three minutes later at 16:07 assisted by brothers Nick, and Ryan. Henry Enebak got the final Lakeville goal, when he also backhanded one past Begley. All eight of Hill-Murray’s losses this year have been to teams in this year’s tournament. Lakeville North will face the winner of the Blaine-Eden Prairie quarterfinal tomorrow night at 8pm. Section 4AA champion Hill-Murray will face the loser at Mariucci Friday at Noon.
