MINNEAPOLIS -- Leading nearly the entire way, Hopkins improved to 28-1 with a dominating 62-35 win over Rochester Mayo (23-6) in a Minnesota State Girls’ Basketball Tournament Class AAAA quarterfinal game on Thursday morning at Target Center.

Hopkins was able to play 18 different players in the contest, with four scoring in double figures. Nia Holle and Viria Livingston scored 13 points each for the Royals, while Ashley Bates and Evelyn Knox scored 11 points each. TT Starks scored six points with a game-high seven rebounds, and Bates had six rebounds and a game-high five steals. Holle contributed five assists, three blocked shots and two steals.

For Mayo, Anna Winter scored 12 points with a team-best five rebounds, while Olivia Korngable scored six points with five rebounds, three assists and three steals. Lexie Riley had five points, three assists and four steals. Grace Riley scored five points.

Tied at 9-9 with 13:35 left in the first half, the Royals used a 13-2 run to take a 22-11 advantage with 8:56 left in the first half, and after the Spartans cut the lead to 22-15 with 6:10 left, the Royals scored the next 18 points to take a 40-15 lead with 1:49 left. Hopkins led 45-20 at halftime, and led by as many as 35 points in the second half.

Hopkins connected on 43.1 percent (25-of-58) from the field in the game, including an 18-of-34 (52.9 percent) effort in the first half. Mayo was limited to 35.1 percent (13-of-37) shooting from the field. Hopkins’ defense forced 39 Mayo turnovers in the game, which it converted into 35 points.

Hopkins will face No. 5-seed Shakopee in a Class AAAA semifinal game on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Williams Arena.
