MINNEAPOLIS -- Top-seed Orono nearly rallied from a 17-point second-half deficit, but could not overcome No. 4-seed Marshall, as the Tigers advanced to the Class AAA championship game with a 55-48 semifinal win at the Minnesota State Girls’ Basketball Tournament on Thursday afternoon at Williams Arena.

Marshall (29-2 overall) will advance to face defending champion and No. 2-seed Park Center in the Class AAA championship game on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Williams Arena, while Orono (29-2 overall) will play Kasson-Mantorville in the Class AAA third-place game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Concordia-St. Paul.

A 9-0 run over a 3:18 span gave the Tigers a 15-6 lead with 12:30 left in the first half, a lead it expanded to 15 points, 35-20 at halftime. Orono trimmed the Marshall lead to three points with a 14-3 run over the first 5:44 of the second half, but could not cut the lead further.

Sarah Buysse led the Tigers with 13 points -- including a 9-for-9 effort from the free-throw line -- and eight rebounds. Marah Mulso had 11 points and four rebounds, while Callie Graff scored 10 points with four rebounds and two assists. Morgan Saugstad scored nine points with six rebounds, two assists and two steals, and Lexi Saugstad scored eight points.

For Orono, Meghan Mandel had 14 points, to go along with five rebounds, four assists and six blocked shots. Danielle Jorgenson scored nine points with two steals, and Rachel Heussner scored eight points with seven rebounds and two assists.

Marshall outrebounded Orono by a 36-23 margin in the game. The Tigers also connected on 19-of-21 from the free-throw line in the game -- 11-of-12 in the second half.
