State Tournament Summary

Third seed Goodhue (23-9) forced 18 turnovers and outscored Lake Park-Audubon (26-5) 23-2 off turnovers in a 54-29 quarterfinal win at the 2016 MSHSL Class A Tournament at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota.

Goodhue advances to the semifinals and will play Central Minnesota Christian on Friday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at Target Center.

It was a close game early on until Goodhue broke away with a 14-2 run late in the first half and into the second half to claim a 30-16 lead.

From there, the lead continued to grow, swelling as much as 27 points late in the game. Goodhue attempted 23 more shots than LPA in the contest, as the 18-8 turnover margin provided extra possessions and the 17-2 offensive rebounding provided second chances.

Ben Opsahl and Ryan Alpers led Goodhue with 13 points each as Opsahl also dished five assists with four steals and Alpers scored his 13 points in just 14 minutes on efficient 6-8 shooting. Jacob McNamara added a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, also grabbing four steals and dishing three assists.

LPA big man Jesse Bergh scored a game-high 15 points in the loss, making 6-12 from the floor and swatting six blocked shots. The rest of the squad was 7-21 from the floor and 0-9 from three-point land.
