MINNEAPOLIS – Lakeville North (26-5) handed top-seed Osseo (29-1) their first loss of the season, beating the Orioles 60-56 to advance to the 2016 MSHSL Class AAAA State Championship. Four Panthers finished in double figures, led by 17 from Nathan Reuvers.

Lakeville North was able to keep the Osseo offense silent early; holding the Orioles to just 2-8 shooting to begin the game. Unfortunately for the Panthers, four early turnovers kept Osseo from falling far behind. Panther turnovers would continue to keep Osseo in the game all 36 minutes. Reuvers was explosive early, scoring six points in the first six minutes of the contest.

A 12-5 run midway through the first half gave Lakeville North a 24-14 lead. The ten point lead was cut to four with back-to-back three point field goals in just under a minute. Osseo got as close as two in the first half, but as both teams headed toward their respective locker rooms, the Panthers led by four, 32-28.

Reuvers finished the first half with 12 points on 6-7 shooting. Allan Anderson led Osseo with nine first half points.

The Lakeville North lead disappeared for the first time when an Anderson jumper tied the score at 36 with 13:48 left. Osseo couldn’t get over the hill and the Panthers took back the lead. They would extend their lead by taking advantage of offensive rebounds. Lakeville held a 12-0 advantage in second chance points with nine minutes to play.

Big shots kept the Orioles within striking distance and they would tie the game up once more, this time with a Mar Mar Hughes layup with 7:25 left. Despite tying the game with over seven minutes to play, they would not take a lead until Kameron Bettie hit a jumper in the lane with 1:53 to play.

Lakeville North retook the lead on a put back from Nick Fossey with 1:16 remaining. Fossey increased the Lakeville lead to three with a pair of free throws 30 seconds later. It was again Fossey at the line with 19 seconds left; he hit both attempts to increase the Panther lead to five.

Anderson would counter for Osseo, hitting a three, and pulling them within two with 13 ticks remaining. After a Panther turnover Osseo had a chance to tie but could not convert. Fossey iced the game with two free throws with 4.6 seconds remaining.

Fossey had the last ten points of the game for Lakeville North. He also had two steals in the final twenty seconds to help secure the win for the Panthers. He finished the game with 12 points. Carter Brooks and Calven Pesola also scored 12 points for Lakeville North.

The Panthers finished the game with a 17-3 advantage in second chance points. Lakeville North turned the ball over 21 times, leading to 13 points for Osseo. Anderson finished the game with a game high 19 points for the Orioles.
