Rochester Lourdes senior tailback Kane Carstens has been named Old Dutch high school athlete of the week after a dazzling performance in Week 7.

The senior tailback had a career game at Kasson-Mantorville, carrying the ball 26 times for 312 yards and five touchdowns, along with two extra points. Kane’s touchdowns came on runs of 30, 6, 85, 62 and 35 yards, which adds up to 218 yards on those carries alone. He also played the entire game on defense, recording two solo tackles and two pass break-ups in the Eagles’ 36-20 victory over the KoMets.

Kane’s lead blocker was his identical twin brother McKay Carstens, who plays fullback for the Eagles. At the 2012 state track meet, the Carstens brothers were part of a state championship 4x200-meter relay team.

Kane is a captain of the football team and a four-year letterwinner in football and track. He has lettered twice in hockey, playing in the state tournament the last two years. He has volunteered to serve meals for the less fortunate, participated in the Salvation Army Kettle Drive and volunteered at the National Junior Disability Championships this summer in Rochester, along with numerous other fundraisers and events to benefit his school and community.

Congratulations to Kane Carstens for being this week's Old Dutch High School Athlete of the week.
