The Caledonia football team is no stranger to the Metrodome. The defending Class 2A state champions also took home Prep Bowl titles in 2007 and 2008. The winning tradition continued Friday, as the 13-1 Warriors shut out Moose Lake/Willow River 27-0.

The game began as a defensive struggle; neither team scored in the first quarter. The 0-0 tie was broken early in the second quarter when Caledonia quarterback Kennen Bruening found Adam Drenckhahn for an 11-yard touchdown pass. The Warriors took a 13-0 lead into halftime after a late Connor McCormick touchdown run.

McCormick was undoubtedly the player of the game. His 189 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 24 carries proved to be too much for the Moose Lake defense.

The Warrior defense was equally tough, allowing just 150 yards of Moose Lake offense. In the third quarter with the score 13-0, the Rebels of Moose Lake took a 76-yard drive all the way to the 1-yard line. Their attempt at cutting into the Caledonia lead was halted by the Warrior defense, with three big stops that forced Moose Lake to turn the ball over on downs.

On the next Rebel drive, Caledonia’s Houston Halverson intercepted Tony Adamczak’s pass, ending the hopes of a Moose Lake/Willow River comeback. Soon after the interception, McCormick scored his second touchdown of the night, making the score 20-0.

Caledonia’s Prep Bowl win is their fifth all-time and fourth in the last five years.
